Lego Social Skills Group

Build Skills, Confidence, and Connection with LEGO® Group

Does your child love LEGO® but find social interaction or communication a bit tricky?

Our LEGO Therapy Group is designed to turn a favourite activity into a powerful opportunity for learning, connection, and growth.

LEGO® Therapy is an evidence-based, play-based approach that supports children to develop social communication skills in a fun, supportive, and structured environment. By building together, children practise essential real-world skills — all while doing something they genuinely enjoy.

What Is LEGO® Therapy?

LEGO® Therapy is based on the research of Dr Daniel LeGoff and is widely used to support children on the autism spectrum, as well as children with social, communication, emotional, or behavioural challenges.

Rather than focusing on what children find difficult, LEGO Therapy builds on their strengths, interests, and motivation. The shared focus on LEGO models encourages natural interaction, teamwork, and communication between peers.

Children learn best when they feel safe, engaged, and connected — and collaborative LEGO play creates exactly that environment.

What Skills Does LEGO® Therapy Support?

Through guided group play, children have the opportunity to practise and develop:

  • Turn-taking and sharing
  • Listening and following instructions
  • Conversation and using names
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Joint attention and shared focus
  • Problem-solving and flexible thinking
  • Patience, self-regulation, and encouragement
  • Seeing different perspectives

These skills are developed naturally through play and supported by the group facilitator, helping children feel confident using them beyond the group setting.

What Happens in a LEGO® Therapy Session?

Sessions are run in small groups (3–6 participants) and facilitated by a Group Facilitator (Danah Collier) who supports children to interact, communicate, and work together.

Each session involves collaborative LEGO building, where children take on clearly defined, rotating roles:

  • Engineer – holds and explains the instructions
  • Supplier – finds and provides the correct bricks
  • Builder – constructing the model together

By rotating roles, children practise different communication styles, leadership skills, and ways of working with others.

Sessions also include:

  • Group check-ins to debrief and build connection
  • Time for creative, freestyle building
  • Opportunities to share and talk about their creations

Why Choose LEGO® Therapy?

LEGO Therapy offers a safe, supportive space where children can practise social skills without pressure. The structured nature of the group provides clear expectations, while play keeps learning enjoyable and motivating.

Additional benefits include:

  • Increased confidence and self-esteem
  • Stronger peer relationships and friendships
  • Improved communication in everyday settings
  • Strengthen fine motor skills
